Avanti Slingshot Alternative - How Printlogic Compares to Avanti Slingshot

Avanti Slingshot is a modular Print MIS originally developed in Toronto and sold to mid-to-large commercial print operations across the UK, USA, and Canada. Ricoh acquired Avanti in 2017 and ran it as part of its commercial print software portfolio. In June 2025, Ricoh sold Avanti to eProductivity Software (ePS) - the same Symphony Technology Group company that already owns Tharstern and EFI Printsmith. Avanti Slingshot now sits under the same ePS umbrella as two other legacy print MIS products. For print businesses evaluating Avanti today, that consolidation matters. Printlogic is independently and privately owned, cloud-native from day one, and built on a straightforward monthly subscription with no contracts and no upfront costs. This page compares both systems directly.

Where Avanti Slingshot wins

  • Deep feature set for large, complex commercial print and marketing services operations
  • JDF-certified - strong standards-based integration with production print hardware
  • Multi-company, multi-currency, multi-plant support for enterprise operations
  • Established presence across UK, USA, and Canada with a large customer base

Where Printlogic wins

  • Monthly subscription, no upfront investment - Avanti's modular pricing structure involves significant cost before the system is live
  • Free onboarding, training, support, and customisations included at every tier
  • Independently owned - Avanti is now the third product in the ePS portfolio alongside Tharstern and EFI Printsmith; the same acquisition-driven pressures apply
  • Suited to small and mid-size businesses - Avanti is built and priced for large operations
  • Native Web2Print portal included - Avanti relies on integration partners for this
  • Print broker management built in
  • Faster implementation - Avanti's onboarding is measured in months and billed separately
  • Truly cloud-native - Avanti offers cloud hosting as one of several deployment options, not as its default architecture

The Bottom Line

Avanti Slingshot is a capable system for large commercial print operations that need deep modular functionality, JDF-certified hardware integration, and multi-site support. At that end of the market, it earns serious consideration. The concern today is the same one that applies to Tharstern and EFI Printsmith: ePS now owns all three. Avanti was sold by Ricoh to ePS in June 2025. That means the same private equity ownership, the same pressure to consolidate roadmaps, the same risk of price increases and reduced support investment across the portfolio. Printlogic has been independently owned since 2001 - by the same team that built it. The pricing structure has not changed. Support is free. The roadmap is driven by active customers. If you are a small-to-mid print business that was priced out of Avanti or put off by the implementation cost, Printlogic covers the same core MIS workflow without the overhead. If you run a large enterprise and are re-evaluating Avanti under its new ownership, Printlogic is worth a direct comparison.

A GREAT Print MIS - even if you don't use all the features!

I have tried a few systems and used Tharstern for 16+ years but for me, as a small print producer and consultancy, Print Logic is just great. It has saved me time and despite the few niggles and quirks, I use it all the time - couldn't be without it now!

PRINTLOGIC REVIEW
October 7, 2024
I have found the programme very easy to use. It exports the invoices into Sage, which helps with time management for our book keeper and eliminates the mistakes from manual entry. The reports are invaluable for marketing, so sales can see chase up quotes that have not been taken up, and chase clients who have not ordered for a certain period of time.
